During Thanksgiving, I generally take a moment to consider the people for which I am grateful. Mellanie Szereto has made my writing journey so much easier. In thanks, please take a moment to join her as she talks, Just Desserts. Or just go straight to the buy-links at the bottom. ;)

One trait you share with your heroine in this book?

Meg Graham hates confrontations and does everything she can to avoid them. She prefers laying low or running away until the drama blows over. That’s me. Fortunately, we’ve both learned when to face those situations head on and speak our minds.

Oh, and she loves pie as much as I do! I’m in the mood for blueberry pie. I think I’ll go make one for Thanksgiving dinner!

One thing you have learned as a writer this year?

I’ve learned so much about formatting for self-publishing in the past year. The requirements for the different retail platforms have forced me to use elements of Word I’d never used before, like section breaks, bookmarks, and hyperlinks. I’m not an overly techie person, so the learning curve was a bit steep. To see everyone else struggling with formatting for print at IRWA’s writers’ retreat made me feel much better about that weakness! Practice does make the process easier. LOL
(When she says everyone here, she means ME!!)

One writer, you'd LOVE to have lunch with?

Only one??? I guess I’d have to choose Louisa May Alcott. I loved her Little Women series when I was growing up. Her female characters were often strong and outspoken in a time when women faced far more barriers than we do today. She took me into the world she created and gave me the escape every avid reader looks for in a book.

Do you want to join us for tea, Jillian? I’ll even bring some pie to go with it!

Here’s the link from “pie” to the recipe on my blog. It’ll go live the same day as the spotlight. http://mellanieszereto.blogspot.com/2014/11/recipe-time-blueberry-pie.html

Sometimes, the trip is no farther than her garden for ingredients and her kitchen to test recipes for her latest steamy tale. She is multi-published with Siren-Bookstrand and is self-publishing her foodie contemporary series, Love on the Menu, in addition to her nonfiction handbooks, Writing Tip Wednesday: The Writing Craft Handbook and Writing Tip Wednesday: The Writing Career Handbook, based on her informational blog series. Book Title: Just Desserts (Book 1 of the Love on the Menu...Extra Hot series)

Blurb: After fifteen years, librarian Meg Graham returns to her hometown to appease her family and reopen the local library. First, the neighbor’s dog steals her underwear. Then its owner, the boy who stole her heart in high school, shows up on her doorstep and does his best to woo her with baked delights. She has no intention of falling for the pie-baking Casanova again, no matter how sweet his desserts or how hot the fire raging between them.

Aidan Rourke’s uncle has promised him ownership of the family bakery if Aidan marries before his 34th birthday. When the only woman he ever truly loved—the one who got away—moves back to town, he pulls out all the stops to recapture her heart. He has only three weeks to convince her of his love and march her down the aisle before she discovers the truth about his uncle’s blackmail scheme.

One trait you share with your heroine in this book?
In For Nicky, A Torey Hope Novel Book 1, I share the trait of shyness with Libby Decker. It's something I'm working on. Becoming an author and meeting so many new people has really helped me open up. Having readers love my writing has boosted my confidence a lot. Like Libby, I'm learning to be more comfortable and confident with myself. In Because of Beckett, A Torey Hope Novel Book 2, I share the trait of wanting to be in control with Audrey. I am an organizer, a scheduler, and I like plans to go my way. Sometimes this is a good trait to have, sometimes it's not a convenient trait to have. As a teacher, a parent, and an author, I've had to learn how to let go and be flexible.

One thing you have learned as a writer this year?
There's so much I've learned and am still learning that it would take much more than one blog post to share it all. I think the biggest thing I'm learning is to not compare myself with others. I've written four books with more on the way, that's a huge success no matter how you look at it. I'm learning to let go of envy and bitterness; I'm working on celebrating all of my readers' kind comments about my books and focusing less on sales and numbers. I can't say I've mastered all of this; I'm a work in progress! :)

One writer, you'd LOVE to have lunch with?
I've been blessed this past year to meet so many amazing authors; I've sat down to dinner with them and spent time with them which has been beyond amazing. I've also found friendships with authors who I've yet to meet in person; it would take a banquet room to fit all of us in for lunch.
I think I'd have to resort back to favorite authors from my childhood to pick someone to have lunch with. Ann M. Martin, Beverly Cleary, and Barbara Park are authors who introduced me to the love of books and reading. I'd love the chance to sit with them and chit-chat.

For Nicky, A Torey Hope Novel Book 1 by A.D. Ellis

Elizabeth Decker views herself as shy, totally average, and pretty much insignificant. She’s nothing special, at least not compared to her little sister, Audrey. Elizabeth is content with her plain and lonely future; she’s too insecure to contemplate a relationship thanks to her sister. Audrey is a bombshell and uses this to get what she wants. She’s a girl who will stop at nothing to control anyone and everything around her. She craves power and doesn’t care if she has to hurt Elizabeth to get it.
Nathaniel Morgan has spent his whole life fighting for his twin brother, Nicholas. Somewhere along the way, he lost himself. Now he’s just getting by. He’s devoted to his family, but emotionally detached from the women he burns through like wildfire. He has no plans of getting into something as complicated and committed as a “relationship”.
Nicholas Morgan has placed the new librarian, Miss Elizabeth, on a pedestal and is begging her to meet his twin brother, Nathaniel. Elizabeth and Nathaniel agree to meet, for Nicky. Both are caught off-guard when unexpected sparks fly between them. This was not in their plans. Will Nathaniel and Elizabeth be able to escape a past that still plagues them? Or, will the past, suspicions, and insecurities come between them one too many times?
**This is a contemporary new adult romance. It should only be read by ages 18+ due to adult themes and situations. This book is a stand-alone but should be read before book 2 in the series.

Because of Beckett, A Torey Hope Novel Book 2 By A.D. Ellis
You met Audrey Decker through Nate and Libby’s story in For Nicky, A Torey Hope Novel Book 1. This is Audrey’s story. It is highly suggested that you read For Nicky before reading Because of Beckett so that you can be emotionally vested in Audrey’s story.
Audrey Decker is a mean girl, a bitch, a bully. She has no plans to stop treating people badly and she’s definitely not going to stop using sex as power. But when she ends up in therapy against her wishes, an ugly and painful repressed past is uncovered and Audrey’s world is tipped on its axis. Everything she thought she knew, everything she thought she was, is all changing.
Jeremiah Jordan returns from serving two years overseas with a detached and hardened heart. When his world is rocked with unexpected news and difficult challenges, Jeremiah faces them head on. He’s comfortable with where he is right now; he has his parents close by and his son is his world. He definitely doesn’t have time for the hassle that has always accompanied dating in the past. He doesn’t have it in him to put effort into forming relationships that may just hurt him or his son again.
A chance encounter, second chances, and a little boy who believes in learning from mistakes is all it takes to bring Audrey and Jeremiah together. However, deserving a second chance and taking that second chance are two very different things. Learning from mistakes and letting go of the past may be easier said than done. Can Audrey and Jeremiah push through the pasts that are haunting both of them or will their romance wither and die under the weight of it all?
Because of Beckett is a story of love, forgiveness, and second chances.
**Because of Beckett is recommended only for ages 18+ due to harsh language, adult situations, and mature themes. Certain pivotal points of Audrey’s history may trigger unpleasant memories for some readers.**

I met this great gal earlier this year at her first book signing. We hooked up again last month at another signing and realized our books are releasing on the same day- 11-11-14.

Welcome Vanessa Marie! I like to keep blog questions short and sweet, but feel free to ramble on. I'm BREATHLESS with anticipation.

One trait you share with your heroine in this book?
We both suffer from heart disease and we’re both very sarcastic. (I cheated and did two haha.)
One thing you have learned as a writer this year?
Only one? That the indie community is something special and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
One writer, you'd LOVE to have lunch with?
Again with the only one? Man. Colleen Hoover. She seems like a hoot!

Breathless blurb:
For once in Charlie’s life, she has something she'd never allowed herself to have before.
All because of Sam’s love.
He fought for her. No matter the cost.
He loved her even when she couldn't allow herself to feel loved.
Now, when things feel like they might go smoothly for once in her life...
The unexpected happens. Her fate. Her constant date with Death.
A reality that completely blindsides her when life once again rears it’s ugly head.
Shattering any sense of a future she ever felt she could grasp, even if only for a second.
Will she give in and surrender to her fate?
Will she retreat, pushing away everyone she loves to hold onto her secrets?
Or will she fight? Fight for Sam, fight for their love, the way he's always.

Vanessa Marie Bio
Always the cause of shenanigans, Vanessa is a heavily tattooed, sarcastic motorcycle enthusiast who started her career as a Jeep tech at the age of sixteen. The happily married mother of three little monsters—oops, children—lives in Kentucky by way of Las Vegas, Nevada. Once her life took a different direction—sidelined by Heart Disease at 26 and becoming a pacemaker recipient—she decided to write as a creative outlet, and Heartless was born. She realizes life can be dark clouds and acid rain at times, but her outlook on life puts a positive and sarcastic spin on it all.

Shiny Surprise

I attended the Indiana Romance Writers of America's annual retreat for my second year this weekend. All around fabulous event (except for the Createspace workshop-that was a hair puller). But, the most lovely part was winning the IRWA Service Award. I was in a bit of a sleep deprivation coma after a late night spent chatting with the girls, and I don't feel I truly expressed my gratitude. So, let me publicly do so,thanks IRWA. The service I give to you, and all the authors I now call friends, is all a part of paying back all this group has done for my own writing career. Mellanie Szereto and Tia Catalina deserve awards for the parts they play behind the scenes, as well.
In my gratitiude for them, let me do what I do best.
Here is Tia's romantic suspense, Blue Falcon:
Mellanie's latest, Just Desserts:

Water’s Threshold

Series Name: The Elementals Series, Book: 1

Blurb: What happens when a lonely water-girl finally finds her shore?

In a tourist town at the base of the Tetons, Maya Conway, a mythical being known as an Elemental, stands at a crossroads. On her current path, she is content using her life force—water—to protect humans and the environment. Her direction is altered when Mother Nature taps her to guide Terran Forrester, an analytical scientist, on his journey to become the next Elemental—Earth. If Maya crosses into his world, will her lonely heart find a partner or will his rational mind reject her otherworldly existence? When an ancient evil evolved from dark matter shadows their steps, which path will they choose—logic or love?

Short Excerpt:

A low beat of classic rock came from the backyard as Maya stood on Terran's front porch. Always one to forge her own trail, she fought the notion that this pull toward him was predestined. Hadn't she, so many years ago, left behind her birthplace to begin a new life? At eighteen, she had traveled across America by train to California. Forever frozen at age twenty-one, she fought the notion this relationship was chosen for her. Fate did not have her at Terran's doorstep-hope did.

At the door's threshold, indecision raced through her mind. Should she cross into his life and get release for this pent-up need, or should she walk away? If she left, could she keep him safe and ignore the pull attempting to anchor her in place? Could she stand still, neither in, nor out?
